    • Dodge: The Full-of-Life Brand

      March 2, 2010

Geneva, Mar 2, 2010 - The Dodge Car Brand continues to offer customers around the world driving excitement, functionality and aggressive styling.

"The focus of the Dodge Car Brand is creating an all-new spirit and life built around strong American heritage in products that provide performance and personality," said Ralph Gilles, President and CEO — Dodge Car Brand and Senior Vice President — Product Design, Chrysler Group LLC. "The Dodge Charger SRT8 and Challenger SRT8 command attention by offering benchmark, all-around performance that appeals to unique customers who celebrate their achievements by living life to the fullest."

At the 80th Geneva International Motor Show, the Dodge Car Brand showcases two iconic models — Dodge Charger SRT8® and Dodge Challenger SRT8 — both of which deliver the best of modern American muscle-car characteristics: unmistakable design, world-class handling, powerful engines and proven technology.

In 2009, the Dodge brand comprised nearly 35 percent of Chrysler Group LLC sales in markets outside North America, led by Dodge Journey as the highest sales volume vehicle and Dodge Caliber also as a top-five sales contender.

As the Chrysler Group product portfolio develops in markets outside North America, Dodge will become a specialty brand with a focus on regional sales for specific models.

Chrysler Group LLC sells and services vehicles in more than 120 countries around the world.

      Dodge Product Highlights
Two high-performance, North American Dodge products from the Street and Racing Technology (SRT) group of Chrysler Group LLC are making their way to the 80th Geneva International Motor Show.

Developed under the credo "Race inspired, street legal," the 2010 Dodge Charger SRT8 and 2010 Dodge Challenger SRT8 are powered by the 6.1-liter HEMI® V-8 engine that produces 317 kW (425 bhp) and 569 N⋅m (420 lb.-ft.) of torque — the highest naturally aspirated, specific-output V-8 engine ever offered by Chrysler Group LLC.

Dodge Charger SRT8: Quickest Sedan in the Dodge Lineup
The Dodge Charger SRT8 packs all of the features and amenities expected of a family sedan and combines it with benchmark performance.

Dodge Charger SRT8 thrills with acceleration from 0-100 km/h in the low 5-second range, world-class ride and handling, benchmark braking that produces 100-km/h stops in approximately 33 m, and 0.89 g on the skid pad. In addition, the Charger SRT8 accomplishes the SRT vehicle's signature performance test of 0-160-0 km/h in less than 17 seconds.

SRT-inspired interior appointments are reflected on the latest Dodge Charger. The vehicle features Dark Slate Gray seats accented with Agate-color stitching. The SRT logo is embroidered on the driver- and passenger-seat inserts. The door handles and steering wheel feature a carbon-fiber-like leather trim. LED lighting in the front cup holders and front- and rear-door map pockets complement the interior compartment.

Befitting its high-performance character, the Dodge Charger SRT8 continues to provide power-adjustable, deeply sculpted and highly bolstered front sport seats, fitted with performance suede inserts, and designed to hold occupants firmly while maneuvering. Rear seats have matching performance suede inserts.

Full instrumentation includes a 300 km/h speedometer, tachometer and a coolant temperature gauge. An LED display within the gauge cluster is driver configurable for oil-temperature, oil-pressure and tire-pressure readouts. The available SRT-exclusive Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC) with Performance Pages provides drivers with instant feedback on 0-100 km/h time, 100-0 km/h braking and G-force readout.

Dodge Challenger SRT8: True to Both its Historical and Modern Concept Car Roots
The Dodge Challenger made a triumphant return in 2008 after a 35-year absence of the iconic muscle car. The ultimate modern American muscle coupe is packed with modern amenities and features all enthusiasts will love.

Exterior styling cues are unmistakably Dodge, with proportions that evoke a bold, instantly recognizable vehicle that has a wide, stable stance on the road. A full-width grille and fog lamps, reminiscent of the original Challenger, are married to the modern "Dodge performance attitude." The result is an aggressive face that is unmistakably a muscle car. The hood, with a raised center, black stripes and functional dual scoops, stays true to the Dodge Challenger heritage, as does the A-line and beltline.

The latest Dodge Challenger SRT8 is available with either a standard five-speed automatic with Auto Stick or an available Tremec TR-6060 six-speed manual transmission that was first offered on the 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10®. A classic pistol-grip shifter featured on the manual transmission is reminiscent of the original Challenger.

On the road, the Dodge Challenger SRT8's impressive performance comes to life with acceleration from 0-100 km/h in the low 5-second range, 0-160-0 km/h in under 17 seconds and braking from 100-0 km/h in approximately 33 m.

Interior highlights include race-inspired leather seats with added bolstering, exclusive red accent stripe, and stitched accents on the seats and steering wheel. Instrumentation includes a four-bomb gauge with tachometer and 300 km/h speedometer in the center, as well as the SRT-exclusive EVIC with Performance Pages that provides drivers with instant feedback on 0-100 km/h time, 100-0 km/h braking time and G-force readout.

      SRT Equals All-around Performance
Chrysler Group LLC's SRT team develops low-volume, high-performance vehicles within the Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep® lineups. All SRT vehicles share five basic traits, including functional exterior styling that resonates with the brand, race-inspired interiors, world-class ride and handling characteristics, benchmark braking and standout high-performance powertrains that appeal to different types of customers.

The 2010 SRT vehicle lineup includes the Dodge Challenger SRT8, Dodge Charger SRT8, Dodge Viper SRT10, Chrysler 300C SRT8 and Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8.

Ram Truck Brand Introduces Sportsmen to the new Ram 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty Pickups

      March 1, 2010

      Auburn Hills, Mich., Mar 1, 2010 -

The Ram Truck Brand today announced a 26-state, 50-venue Master Sportsman's Tour that's expected to give more than a million hunters and fishermen an up-close look at the all-new, redesigned 2010 Ram Heavy Duty pickup.

The Ram Truck Brand in cooperation with dealers in regions with a heavy concentration of hunting, fishing and boating participants will be setting up camp at many of America's top outdoors expositions and showing off their trophy-winning Ram 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty pickup trucks.

"It's a fact that pickup truck owners — especially Ram Heavy Duty pickup truck owners — enjoy hunting, fishing and boating," said Fred Diaz, President and CEO - Ram Truck Brand, Chrysler Group LLC. "This tour gives our dealers — who, like me, enjoy these outdoor sports — a chance to talk with fellow sportsmen and meet tens of thousands of potential local customers at one time."

Ram Heavy Duty Truck owners are divided evenly into two groups: those that purchased their truck for work (vocational) and those that purchased their truck for recreational use. However, among those that purchased their truck for work, nearly 100 percent use their truck for recreation, as well.

Ram HD owner demographics illustrate a passion for the outdoors: 36 percent own power boats; 47 percent hunt; 57 percent fresh water fish; and 33 percent salt water fish. Amazingly, 58 percent of Ram HD owners own more than one trailer, accounting for the 37 percent of Ram HD owners that own boat trailers and the 37 percent who tow camping trailers.

Ram Heavy Duty trucks are ideally suited for sportsmens' needs, boasting legendary durability, and offering new features and refinements that stand out from the crowd. Features that include more than 40 storage spaces including hidden, in-floor bins, integrated brake controller and exhaust brake standard with diesel powertrains. And refinements like soft-touch interior surfaces and easy-riding passenger cab hydro mounts.

Ram Heavy Duty trucks also feature the two most well-known powertrains in the business, including the legendary 5.7-liter HEMI with variable valve timing and the powerful, yet durable 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel.

The Ram Truck Brand launched the new 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty pickups late in 2009 as 2010 model year trucks, and already they're earning awards.

Building on the success of their award-winning sibling the Ram 1500, the Ram 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty have won Motor Trend's "2010 Truck of the Year," Four Wheeler magazine's Pickup Truck of the Year and Most Influential 4x4s of the Decade (2005-2010 Ram Power Wagon), MotorWeek's Driver's Choice Award Pickup Truck of the Year and the Texas Auto Writers (TAWA) "Heavy Duty Pickup Truck of Texas."

      About the Ram Truck Brand

With a work-hard, play-hard attitude, the Ram Truck brand offers the boldest, most powerful and capable pickup truck lineup on the planet.

The Ram Truck brand will add to its award-winning truck lineup with the introduction of it all-new 2010 Ram 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty trucks, Motor Trend's Truck of the Year. The new heavy-duty trucks provide customers with first-time innovations and features along with new standards of strength, utility and driveability, building on the Ram's leadership in the heavy-duty pickup segment.

Introduced in 2008, the Ram 1500 is a game changer in terms of its ability to "outsmart" and "out-tough" the competition with its bold exterior design, crafted and refined interior, engineering excellence, superb innovation and best-in-class features and amenities. The Ram 1500 also ranks at the top of Strategic Vision Inc.'s (SVI) 2009 Total Quality Index™ (TQI) in the full-size truck segment. According to the survey, the Ram 1500 leads the way with the highest Total Quality score of any truck in the 15-year history of the study. Customers specifically noted that the Ram has the best added storage capability along with the best truck interior ever rated by customers.

The Ram Truck brand will further enhance its commercial vehicle presence with the introduction of a "new crew" of commercial-grade work trucks: the new 2011 Ram 3500, 4500 and 5500 Chassis Cabs. Led by an all-new crew cab, the new 2011 Ram Chassis Cabs are built on a proven frame and chassis, and engineered for maximum uptime, optimum performance and enhanced commercial capability.

More than 70 Years of Mopar
When Chrysler bought Dodge in 1928, the need for a dedicated parts manufacturer, supplier and distribution system to support the growing enterprise led to the formation of the Chrysler Motor Parts Corporation (CMPC) in 1929.

Mopar (a simple contraction of the words Motor and PARts) was trademarked for a line of antifreeze products in 1937. It also was widely used as a moniker for the CMPC. The Mopar brand made its mark in the 1960s — the muscle-car era. The former Chrysler Corporation built race-ready Dodge and Plymouth "package cars" equipped with special high-performance parts. Mopar carried a line of "special parts" for super stock drag racers and developed its racing parts division called Mopar Performance Parts to enhance speed and handling for both road and racing use.

Dodge Challenger: Forty Years of a Dodge Muscle-car Legend

      February 10, 2010

Chicago, Feb 10, 2010 - When the Dodge Challenger first entered in the muscle car ranks of Detroit's Big Three, it arrived with something its competitors didn't have: the greatest range of powertrain choices in the industry, from the small but durable 225-cubic-inch "Slant Six" to the fearsome "Elephant Motor" — the 426 HEMI®. With the best muscle-car powertrains in the business, Dodge Challenger has added, and continues to add, to its rich legacy, creating one of the most storied nameplates in automotive history.

      Dodge Challenger's 40-year legacy includes:

      1970
The Dodge Challenger made its debut in the fall of 1969 as a 1970 model. While it shared Chrysler's "E-body" short-deck, long-hood platform with the third-generation Plymouth Barracuda, Dodge Challenger's wheelbase was 2 inches longer, creating more interior space.

The Dodge Challenger was originally offered as a two-door hardtop or convertible, in base, SE (Special Edition), R/T (Road/Track) and T/A (Trans-Am) trim. But it was the range of powertrain choices that was truly remarkable:

      • 225-cubic-inch I-6; 145 horsepower
      • 318-cubic-inch V-8; 230 horsepower
      • 340-cubic-inch V-8; 275 horsepower (290 horsepower in the T/A)
      • 383-cubic-inch V-8; 290 horsepower
      • 383-cubic-inch V-8; 330 horsepower
      • 383-cubic-inch V-8; 335 horsepower
      • 426-cubic-inch HEMI V-8; 425 horsepower
      • 440-cubic-inch V-8; 375 horsepower
      • 440-cubic-inch V-8; 390 horsepower

Driveline choices for various engines included Chrysler's TorqueFlite automatic transmission and a three- or four-speed manual transmission, which could be equipped with a Hurst "pistol-grip" shifter. Big-block Challengers could be ordered with a heavy-duty Dana 60 differential equipped with a limited-slip differential.

Even the paint schemes said "performance," with colors, including Plum Crazy and HEMI Orange, accented with "bumblebee" stripes. Customers could further customize their cars with twin-scooped hoods, "shaker" hoods and deck-lid wings.

Befitting the brand's performance heritage, Dodge raced the Challenger in its first year on the market. For the street, it was offered in the limited-edition T/A model to meet homologation requirements for Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) Trans-Am racing. The T/A was one of the first production vehicles to offer staggered size tires in the front and back; E60 x 15-inch front and G60 x 15-inch rear.

In 1970, Sam Posey drove the lone Trans-Am racing Challenger, prepared and run by Ray Caldwell's Autodynamics Race Shop. While he didn't win a race in the No. 77 car, Posey finished fourth overall in points.

Drag racers, including Dick Landy and Ted Spehar, also campaigned Challengers in the National Hot Rod Association's new Pro Stock class. In 1970 and 1971, the HEMI-powered Challengers (and Plymouth ‘Cudas) virtually ruled the class.

On the big screen, a 1970 Challenger R/T starred in the film Vanishing Point, a high-speed pursuit movie that has become a cult favorite with muscle-car fans. The movie was remade for television in 1997.

Other 1970 Dodge Challengers have been seen in films, including Used Cars, Natural Born Killers and Phantasm I and II; and in television shows, including Mod Squad.

For the 1970 model year, more than 83,000 Dodge Challengers were sold.

      1971
In 1971, designers made subtle styling changes to the Dodge Challenger, providing new treatments to the taillamps and grille. The single-taillamp design from 1970 became two distinct lights for 1971, and a new-for-1971 twin-inlet Challenger grille was painted silver on standard models and black on R/Ts.

Challenger R/T models also received a set of fiberglass quarter-panel louvers. An additional coupe model with fixed quarter windows was added to the lineup.

As in 1970, a wide range of trim levels, exterior colors and striping options made the Dodge Challenger easy for customers to create a special car. However, for 1971, Dodge dropped the T/A (it was no longer racing in Trans-Am), SE models and R/T convertible.

New EPA emission standards led to some powertrain changes; the optional 375 horsepower 440-cubic-inch was eliminated, as was the Six Pack-equipped 340-cubic-inch powerplant. The 383-cubic-inch Magnum engine was detuned to 300 horsepower by lowering the compression ratio for improved emissions. However, a 390 horsepower six-pack 440 V-8 was available, and the 425 horsepower 426-cubic-inch HEMI still topped the vast engine offerings.

A Dodge Challenger paced the Indianapolis 500 race in 1971. Dodge produced 50 Challenger convertible pace car replicas — all painted HEMI Orange with white tops and interiors.

      1972
With escalating insurance rates and new EPA emissions mandates, more changes came to the Dodge Challenger in 1972. Also, the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) revised the torque and horsepower rating test from a "gross" to a "net" as installed in the cars. This reduced all ratings 20 to 30 percent, making them non-comparable to previous ratings.

Only three engines were available in the 1972 Dodge Challenger: the 225-cubic-inch Slant Six with 110 horsepower, the 318-cubic-inch V-8 with 150 horsepower and the 340-cubic-inch V-8 with 240 horsepower. All were equipped to use the then-new unleaded fuel.

With convertible sales in steady decline over several years, the 1972 Dodge Challenger was offered in hardtop form only. The sun roof had become a more popular alternative and was offered as an option for more than $400.

New front-end styling in 1972 featured a larger "egg-crate" grille. It was painted argent for standard Challengers and black on the Challenger Rallye performance model, which replaced the R/T. The Challenger's taillamp design included twin lights on each side, with the center panel painted the same color as the grille. The Rallye model also was equipped with four small scoops on the front fenders.

      1973
Beginning in 1973, the federal government mandated new bumper-impact standards that resulted in the only changes to the Dodge Challenger exterior — five-miles-per-hour bumpers equipped with large rubber guards that extended out from the bodywork.

Inside, grained vinyl was the only available seating material, but a new instrument-cluster design was part of the Rallye option package. The Rallye was eliminated as a separate model, although customers could create one with options.

Under the hood, the six-cylinder engine was no longer available; the 150 horsepower 318-cubic-inch V-8 was standard, with the 240 horsepower 340-cubic-inch V-8 as the only option.

      1974
With performance car insurance rates skyrocketing, more safety equipment led the short list of changes for the 1974 model-year Dodge Challengers.

Inside, lap and shoulder belts were equipped with an inertia reel. In addition, there was a federally mandated seat belt-ignition interlock, which prevented the car from being started if the driver or passenger didn't buckle up.

The Dodge Challenger offered a different engine option for 1974. With the 318-cubic-inch V-8 still standard, a 360-cubic-inch V-8 producing 245 horsepower replaced the 340-cubic-inch V-8 as the only engine option.

In April 1974, Challenger production ceased. During a five-year span, approximately 188,600 Dodge Challengers were sold.

      1978-1984
Beginning in 1978 — the year the U.S. Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standard took effect — Dodge offered a new Challenger two-door coupe imported from Mitsubishi. It was offered with a standard 1.6-liter, 77 horsepower I-4 engine, with a 2.6-liter, 105 horsepower four-cylinder as an option.

Slightly restyled in 1981, the Dodge Challenger soldiered on until 1984, replaced by the growing stable of Chrysler Corporation's K-platform compacts and a new import from Mitsubishi: the Dodge/Plymouth Conquest.

During its six-year run, sales of the imported Dodge Challenger averaged between 12,000 and 14,000 units per year.

      2006
At the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January 2006, Dodge unveiled the Challenger concept to immediate acclaim. Based on the Dodge Charger's advanced rear-wheel-drive platform and legendary HEMI V-8 engine, the Dodge Challenger concept featured the long hood, short deck, wide stance and two-door coupe body-style that resembled the iconic Challengers of the 1970s. Over the next several months, the company received repeated pleas from consumers and the media to build the car.

      2008
The Dodge Challenger returned with the all-new 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8® at the Chicago Auto Show. The 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 offered all that pony-car fanatics crave: ground shaking performance, unmistakable design cues reminiscent of the original Challenger, world-class ride and handling characteristics and benchmark braking.

The Dodge Challenger SRT8's 425 horsepower (317 kW) and 420 lb.-ft. of torque (569 N⋅m) were the result of SRT's exclusive, proven 6.1-liter HEMI V-8 engine. Its 69.8 horsepower-per-liter rating exceeds even that of the legendary 1966 "Street HEMI."

Dodge Challenger SRT8 sports a five-link independent rear suspension allowing for independent tuning of ride-and-handling characteristics. The Challenger SRT8 featured SRT-exclusive 20-inch fully-forged Alcoa aluminum wheels with four-season Goodyear Eagle RS-A or optional three-season Goodyear F1 Supercar tires. All four wheels were equipped with red painted Brembo calipers that feature four opposing pistons on a fixed caliper for even clamping performance.

The 6,400 Dodge Challenger SRT8 models built for the 2008 model year were available in HEMI Orange, Bright Silver Metallic and Brilliant Black Crystal Pearl exterior paint colors. Interior highlights included race-inspired leather seats with added bolstering and an exclusive red accent stripe, exclusive stitched accents on the seats and steering wheel, four-bomb gauges with tachometer and 180-mph speedometer in the center. An SRT-exclusive Reconfigurable Display (RCD) with Performance Pages provided drivers instant feedback on zero to 60 mph time, 60 to zero mph braking, g-forces and 1/4-mile time, and limited-edition numbered dash plaque.

The first production 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 was sold at the 37th annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction with a winning bid placed by Craig Jackson, Chairman/CEO of the Barrett-Jackson Auction Company of $400,000. All of the proceeds went to charity.

      2009
The introduction of the all-new 2009 Dodge Challenger SE and R/T models at the New York International Auto Show delivered the full lineup of Dodge Challengers to the marketplace. From the maximum Dodge Challenger SRT8, to the performance of the Challenger R/T with its 5.7-liter HEMI V-8, to the cutting-edge technology of Challenger SE with the efficient 3.5-liter V-6 engine, the 2009 Dodge Challenger offered a full menu of options for every customer.

Adding even more capability than the 2008 model, the 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8 with its powerful 6.1-liter HEMI V-8 offered a six-speed manual transmission, in addition to the proven five-speed automatic with Auto Stick. The six-speed—the Tremec TR-6060—was matched with a race-inspired dual-disc clutch that was first offered on the 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10.

The new 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T tucked its legendary 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine under a long, raised performance hood with functional hood scoops to increase engine cooling. The newest-generation 5.7-liter HEMI® V-8 engine featured dual Variable-cam Timing (VCT) and dual ignition (two spark plugs per cylinder) to increase power and torque, while improving refinement and efficiency.

When paired with the automatic transmission, the new-generation 5.7-liter HEMI® V-8 included the fuel-saving Multi-displacement System (MDS) allowing Dodge Challenger R/T Classic to operate economically on four cylinders, or produce 372 horsepower (277 kW) and 401 lb.-ft. of torque (544 N⋅m) when all eight cylinders are needed.

With its "pistol grip" shifter, the six-speed manual transmission Dodge Challenger R/T featured a performance-tuned dual exhaust with optimized engine back pressure and two low-restriction bottle resonators for maximum "throatiness." The result, even more power at tap with 376 horsepower (280 kW) and 410 lb.-ft. of torque (556 N⋅m) ready to accelerate the Dodge Challenger R/T from zero to 60 mph in less than 6 seconds.

The new 2009 Dodge Challenger SE powered by the 3.5-liter High Output V-6 with a four-speed automatic transmission produced 250 horsepower (186 kW) and 250 lb.-ft. of torque (339 N⋅m).

Halfway through the 2009 model year, the Dodge Challenger R/T Classic offered menacing looks and, combined with the 5.7-liter V-8 engine, an unforgettable punch. Based on the Challenger R/T, the Challenger R/T Classic featured dual throwback A-line body-side R/T stripes in matte black, ‘Challenger' fender badging in classic script, large 20-inch polished-chrome heritage wheels, classic egg-crate grille with heritage ‘R/T' badge, body-color rear spoiler and bright racing style fuel filler door.

The 2009 Dodge Challenger SE Rallye added even more pony-car excitement with a more responsive five-speed automatic transmission (implemented as standard equipment on all mid-year Challenger SEs), throw-back hood and deck-lid dual stripes with accent color outer stripes, bright racing style fuel filler door, 18-inch rallye wheels with all-season performance tires, body-color deck-lid spoiler and Micro Carbon interior accents.

Original B5 Blue returned from the Dodge paint code archive for a limited-edition run of Challenger R/T Classic and Challenger SRT8 models.

Based on the production Dodge Challenger SRT8, Mopar® offered a modern factory-prepped Challenger Drag Race Package Car (as a special body-in-white). To reduce vehicle weight, major production component and systems were eliminated, including windshield wiper assembly, complete HVAC system, all airbag components, rear seats, power steering system, exhaust system and underbody heat shields, cross-car and side-impact door beams, rear-bumper beam and rear deck-lid spoiler. The drag racer offered three engine options — 6.1-liter or 5.7-liter HEMI or 5.9-liter Magnum® Wedge — as well as manual or automatic transmission options.

      2010
The 2010 Dodge Challenger R/T and Challenger R/T Classic add even more performance and excitement with the Super Track Pack for the 2010 model years. This handling package includes 20-inch Goodyear Eagle F1 Super Car tires, front and rear Nivomat self-leveling shock-absorbers, a larger rear stabilizer bar, a 3.06 rear-axle ratio, performance brake linings and enthusiast-desired "ESC-off" stability calibration.

Even more exclusive, and true to Challenger's high-performance history are the 2010 Dodge Challenger R/T Classic and SRT8 Detonator Yellow and Plum Crazy editions. The Dodge Challenger R/T Classic in Plum Crazy Pearl Coat is the first limited-edition to offer dual throwback A-line body-side R/T stripes in matte black or new bright white, while the SRT8 editions feature unique SRT-designed appointments and unique SRT performance seats with accented stripe.

Two of the wildest and rarest 2010 Dodge Challenger special editions will soon be available to Dodge fans and collectors to celebrate 40 years of Dodge Challenger performance: the 2010 Dodge Challenger R/T Classic and Challenger SRT8 Furious Fuchsia editions. With Furious Fuchsia Pearl Coat exterior paint and all-new Pearl White leather performance seats, these limited-edition Dodge Challengers deliver the best of modern American muscle-car characteristics — now in one of the most significant hues.

Ram 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty
Building on the success of their award-winning sibling the Ram 1500, the Ram 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty pickups are starting to haul in their own awards. Since its recent introduction, the all-new Ram 2500/3500 Heavy Duty has received a number of prestigious awards including Motor Trend's "2010 Truck of the Year", Four Wheeler's "Pickup Truck of the Year," Four Wheeler magazine Most Influential 4x4s of the Decade (2005-2010 Ram Power Wagon) and the Texas Auto Writers (TAWA) "Heavy Duty Pickup Truck of Texas."

The 2010 Ram Heavy Duty brings increased capability and innovative new features to the heavy-duty segment with an uncompromising attitude that remains the standard for all full-size heavy-duty pickups.

For 2010, the Ram Heavy Duty is available for the first time in a crew-size cab model, providing Ram with a formidable entry in the highest-volume part of the heavy-duty pickup segment (approximately 50 percent).

Ram Heavy Duty delivers the performance and amenities customers demand. The 2010 Ram Heavy Duty pickups feature a hydro-formed, fully boxed frame with advanced torsional rigidity and stiffness. A coil-spring suspension setup is used up front, while the multi-leaf spring design is maintained in the rear for heavy-duty capability. Front and rear shocks and springs are tuned for optimum ride quality and capability.

Improved suspension tuning and new C-pillar hydro mounts were added to the 2010 Ram Heavy Duty models to improve damping through the frame-bending mode frequency in order to better manage shake and after-shake response. The result is reduced shake, which means an improved ride for the customer.

The new 2010 Ram 2500 and 3500 pickups offer the only standard exhaust brake in the segment (diesel-equipped models only). This feature reduces brake fade, prolongs brake life and provides confidence and safety when hauling heavy loads on downhill grades. Large front (360 mm) and rear (358 mm) brakes with integrated Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) increase brake life and braking stability.

An available integrated trailer brake control provides better driver control in towing situations. Trailer brake control information is conveniently displayed in the Electronic Vehicle Information Center (EVIC), which is standard on all Ram Heavy Duty models equipped with a diesel engine and available on gas SLT, TRX and Laramie models.

Customers in the heavy-duty segment have a range of needs, and most of them involve high levels of capability. The new 2010 Ram 2500 and 3500 are designed to deliver a total package:

      • Increased Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) on 2500 4x4 crew cab diesel models to 9,600 pounds from 9,000 pounds
      • Increased Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) on 3500 dually models with diesel, auto transmission and 4.10 rear axle to 24,500 pounds from 24,000 pounds. With the Max Tow Package, GCWR increases to 25,400 pounds (late availability)
      • Increased GCWR on 3500 4x2 models to 24,000 pounds from 23,000 pounds
      • Increased front Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) on several models:
        • To 5,500 pounds from 5,200 pounds on diesel 4x4 pickups
        • To 5,000 pounds from 4,700 pounds on diesel 4x2 pickups

Other towing features include improved trailer-tow mirrors with integrated turn signals, memory function and puddle lamps. The larger 7-in. x 11-in. trailer-tow mirrors offer improved visibility with larger convex glass surfaces. The mirrors flip up and out in a vertical configuration for improved visibility around wide trailers. Trailer-tow mirrors are now standard on 3500. As an added convenience, a Class IV receiver is now standard on all Ram 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty pickups.

Ram Heavy Duty towing, payload and axle capacity all have been increased for 2010. Suspension upgrades and larger front-axle U-joints, combined with increased front GAWR, result in increased front weight-carrying capability — a must for larger snowplows.

The Ram Power Wagon also returns for the 2010 model year, equipped with electric-locking front and rear differentials, electronic disconnecting sway bar, Bilstein shocks, 32-inch BFGoodrich off-road tires, underbody skid plate protection, 4.56 axle ratio for hill climbing and a custom-built Warn® 12,000-pound winch that is accessible through the front bumper. The 2010 Ram Power Wagon features new exterior graphics and a lower two-tone paint scheme.

Powertrain choices include the legendary 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel engine, which produces 350 horsepower (261 kW) at 3,000 rpm and 650 lb.-ft. of torque (881 N⋅m) at only 1,500 rpm.

The most durable and reliable engine in its class, the 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel features standard oil-change intervals of 7,500 miles. It also has major-overhaul intervals of 350,000 miles, providing more than a 100,000-mile advantage versus the competition.

The Cummins 6.7-liter Turbo Diesel engine uses a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) to virtually eliminate particulate matter emissions and an adsorber catalyst to reduce oxides of nitrogen (NOx) by as much as 90 percent, in order to meet stringent 2010.5 diesel emissions requirements.

Ram Heavy Duty's DPF is a lower cost, lower maintenance alternative to Diesel Emission Fluid (DEF) injection systems to be used by competitors.

The 2010 Ram Heavy Duty comes standard with the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 gasoline engine, delivering 383 horsepower (286 kW) at 5,600 rpm and 400 lb.-ft. of torque (542 N⋅m) at 4,000 rpm. The 5.7-liter HEMI was redesigned for 2009, with several new and improved technologies including Variable-valve Timing (VVT), increased compression ratio, active intake manifold with long runners for low-end torque and short runners for high-rpm power, improved cylinder head port flow efficiency and reduced-restriction exhaust and induction systems.

The all-new 2010 Ram Heavy Duty pickup was born from the same truck family that brought out the award-winning Ram 1500, Strategic Vision's Quality Award Winner.

The 2010 Ram Heavy Duty includes all-new styling, offering a tougher, more capable look with improved aerodynamics and fit and finish. To accommodate cooling requirements of the 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel engine, the new 2010 Ram Heavy Duty grille opening is larger than the light-duty grille. The larger grille mates to a taller hood that incorporates louvers on each side. Access to the front winch (on Power Wagon models) and tow hooks led to the unique front-bumper design.

The new dual-rear-wheel fenders (3500 dually only) are now integrated into the box stamping and offer a smooth aerodynamic appearance.
